Machine to Machine or M2M refers to technologies which allow wired and wire-less systems to communicate with other devices. Machine to machine technology uses a sensor or meter to capture an event such as location of a vehicle or level of inventory. This event is then sent through a wired or wireless network to a software application that turns the captured event into useful information such as informing a company which items in its inventory needs to be re-ordered or when a vehicle requires servicing.
M2M Applications are becoming more and more popular for companies of all types thanks to the expansion of wireless networks around the world. Interconnected wireless networks can help to improve productivity and efficiency for companies building products and offering services of all types.
The rapid expansion of machine to machine connections in the world is spurring the adoption of M2M service delivery platform models. An M2M service delivery platform enables the management of cellular connections to remote devices in the field. Companies using M2M applications can quickly see the potential savings of time, cost and labor as information is transmitted from a vehicle, device or business so that processes become streamlined. If a company uses many connected devices the possibilities M2M applications offer are very powerful indeed.
