Author: Homeschooling is not an easy job, nor is it for the fickle family, but when it’s done well, and done with purpose, homeschooling is richly rewarding for all. Both students and parents have much to gain when they work together for common goals in their homeschool program, but there are five key advantages to homeschooling.
1. Building a solid academic foundation is often the primary reason families begin to homeschool, but it also keeps them going as well. 
Homeschooling allows families to choose individual curricula and teach learning skills in ways that public and private schools cannot due to time constraints or other factors. Homeschooled students can take the necessary time to learn the material rather than just moving on to the next topic because the calendar says they must, thus building solid academic foundations on which to progress through core course content.
2. Homeschooling, by the very nature of it, is done in settings where students feel safe, protected, and nurtured. This positive environment keeps the student free of socially distracting elements that interfere with learning. Homeschooling families can still have active social lives in and around their community, and most do, but they are freed up to learn and study in an environment that is more relaxing, more comfortable, and therefore more conducive to learning.
3. Flexible scheduling is also one of the biggest advantages for homeschoolers. There are many, many students who have demanding athletic or fine arts based interests that keep them going during traditional school hours. Homeschooling allows them to do their school work in a variety of ways and places and still attend their sporting events or tour with choirs, theater groups, etc. The ability to adapt school hours and days is also important for families of children who suffer from physical limitations and might not be able to attend a public school. Learning on their own time, students can progress nicely through their studies and suit their schedules to fit their learning needs and time challenges.
